“If there’s one thing Australian small business owners have in spades, it’s an unwavering strength and resilience in the face of adversity.”
Recently the Mentored team travelled down the NSW South Coast to visit some fire affected communities. The Australian bushfire disaster devastated many communities, with business owners struggling to attract the normally busy levels of summer trade. Mark Bouris decided to meet with local business owners in the Batemans Bay region to ask them about their experiences, and to discover what they need to get back up and running following the bushfire disasters.
Mark said, “This is not the end of it. I’m going to continue helping these families to rebuild their businesses. You’re going to hear more about these businesses and the communities they operate in.”
“Our regional and fire affected communities need support, and we can start by simply visiting. The business owners need to trade, so if you’ve got a free Saturday, a free weekend, make a trip. Support local business.”
It would be easy to think the worst of Australia’s devastating bushfire season is finally over, at least for now, with most of the wild blazes that consumed towns and bushland now under control, or on their way to being contained.
But the truth is that, for the tens of thousands of small business owners in the areas worst hit by the fires, or the thousands more still crippled by drought, the real pain is only just beginning.
See, when a disaster ends, so does the news coverage. There are no cameras to catch the heartache of a town enduring the long, hard slog towards recovery. No reporters with notebooks to see the hotels and motels sitting empty, restaurants abandoned, or tour operations utterly devoid of tourists.
At Mentored, we will continue to share the stories of our business community. We will also continue to show our support, through our free Disaster Recovery Masterclass. We wanted to help those who need guidance in responding to the recent disasters, but we also wanted to stress to our business community that preparing a robust business structure is essential for all businesses.
A well thought out structure will help you respond whenever disaster occurs, no matter how unlikely you think that event might be.
As Mark said, “Information like this is far too important to the people who really keep this country moving forward, and I want it to find its way to as many business owners as possible.”
“As the old adage goes, the very best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, and the second-best time is right now. And so it goes for protecting your business from unexpected disasters. I know it feels overwhelming at the moment, but I promise you’ll get through this. Because if there’s one thing Australian small business owners have in spades, it’s an unwavering strength and resilience in the face of adversity.”
