Business Chicks is a huge Australian success story, with more than 45,000 members around the country.
But before Emma Isaacs took on the business 13 years ago, she had started her first business and was rejected for a home loan.
She tells the story on The Mentor with Mark Bouris podcast:
“Very early on, I became really interested in property, and I bought my first property when I was 19,” she said.
“It was a really hard thing to get finance when I was 19, and rightly so - I was paying myself $30,000 from my business and had zero assets, so I probably wasn’t a good credit risk.”
“I went around to eight lenders and got nos from all of those lenders, and Wizard at the time was one of those nos…”
As Wizard Home Loans founder, Mark Bouris laughed and said Emma is welcome to come back to him at any time!
“We lost you as a potential client - and I can tell you we’d love to refinance all your loans now,” he said.
“But what did it spur you on to do? How did rejection or denial work for you?”
Emma describes her process as constantly moving forward.
“I wallow in it for about 30 seconds, and then I get fired up and I put on that attitude ‘I’m going to show you’, and I just don’t take no for an answer,” she said.
“I think having that resilience and ability to keep going no matter what - people give up too easily these days, we get a no and think that’s ok and give up, but I keep trying.”
