How hard is it to make money in cooking and food?

Chef Colin Fassnidge talks about how hard it is to make money in the food industry.

Restaurants and food are difficult industries to be in - the margins can be small and the customers demand a lot in return for their only.

Colin Fassnidge, chef and judge on Channel 7’s My Kitchen Rules, is no stranger to the challenges of the industry.

“Cooking is one of those things - especially in restaurants - where you really have to get into it because you’re passionate about it,” he said.

“And it doesn’t start as as business, it starts as a passion but very early on you realise you’ve got to start making money or the passion will be gone and the business will be gone.”

“Even me, I’ve been in this business 20 year and even I have months where you scratch your head and I don’t know what’s gone wrong, but then you bring it back the next month.”

“You can never sit on your laurels, especially in the food business.”
